Who We Are

Gathering House Youth Empowerment Society is a dynamic, fast-growing, community-rooted youth organization working across Myanmar’s central dry zone. GHYES was founded in Magway on February 4, 2020, by a group of enthusiastic, passionate young people and student leaders.  GHYES empowers young people to lead transformative efforts toward building a peaceful and comprehensively developed society.

Amid ongoing conflict, displacement, and a breakdown of trust in institutions since 2021, GHYES serves as a unifying platform for young people to come together as change agents—to strengthen the resilience of communities, foster inclusive development, and promote peaceful coexistence through people-centered, youth-led solutions.

We believe that youth, when meaningfully empowered, are critical drivers of transformation—not only for their communities but for Myanmar’s broader journey toward peace and comprehensive development.

What We Work

01

Cash Programming

Our organization implements cash programming to support vulnerable households in meeting their essential needs with dignity and choice. Through safe and transparent cash assistance, we help families access food, nutrition, and basic services while strengthening local markets and community resilience.

As part of our humanitarian response, our organization delivers cash assistance to vulnerable households so they can prioritize and meet their most urgent needs. We ensure fair targeting, secure delivery, and accountability to communities, enabling families to access food, nutrition, and essential services while supporting local economies.

Our cash programming provides timely and accountable financial support to vulnerable households, enabling them to purchase food and essential items according to their needs. By combining community engagement, transparent systems, and market-based approaches, we promote dignity, choice, and sustainable recovery.

02

Food Security

Our organization strengthens food security by supporting vulnerable households to access sufficient, safe, and nutritious food. We combine food assistance, livelihood support, and community engagement to reduce hunger and improve well-being.

We work to improve food security for vulnerable communities by ensuring reliable access to nutritious food throughout the year. Through food assistance, agriculture and livelihood support, and nutrition education, we help households meet their food needs and build resilience against shocks.

Our food security programs support vulnerable households with food assistance and livelihood opportunities to prevent hunger and malnutrition. By promoting sustainable agriculture, market access, and community participation, we strengthen long-term food availability and stability.

03

Protection

Our organization promotes protection by ensuring that vulnerable individuals and communities are safe, respected, and able to access assistance without harm. We integrate safeguarding, inclusion, and community feedback across all programs.

We strengthen protection by reducing risks, preventing exploitation and abuse, and ensuring safe and equitable access to services for vulnerable groups. Through community awareness, safeguarding systems, and responsive feedback mechanisms, we uphold dignity, rights, and accountability.

Our protection approach focuses on preventing harm, supporting at-risk individuals, and promoting safe access to assistance. We work closely with communities to address protection risks, strengthen referral pathways, and ensure programs are inclusive, accountable, and do no harm.
